Phase 3 · Lesson 3.1 · Assessing Cross-Cultural Readiness

Cross-Cultural Readiness Assessment

"I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some" (1 Corinthians 9:22). This assessment gives you and your mentor an honest picture of how ready you are, today, to cross into another culture for the gospel. It measures six dimensions — four that every cross-cultural worker needs, and two rooted in your walk with God. Answer all 36 statements honestly to receive an overall readiness score and a dimension-by-dimension profile with strengths, growth edges, and questions to take to prayer.

This is not a pass/fail test, and a low score is not a verdict on your calling — it is a map of where God still has room to grow you before and during the field. For each statement, choose how true it is of you. Answer for how you actually are right now, not how you hope to be or think you should be. Your first instinct is usually the most accurate. Please answer all 36.

Overall readiness

Your six dimensions

Each dimension is scored out of 30. Taller bars are present strengths; shorter bars are where your readiness most needs to grow. A healthy worker is not maxed out everywhere — but persistent low scores deserve honest attention with your mentor.

Where you are strong

Your two highest dimensions — the readiness God has already built in you. Steward these well, and use them to serve a team.

Where to grow

Your two lowest dimensions — not disqualifiers, but the areas to pray over, work on intentionally, and revisit before and during the field.

What each dimension measures

Take this to prayer & to your mentor

Bring this profile to your mentor as part of Lesson 3.1. Ask: where has God already prepared me, and where do I need His grace, real practice, and my teammates' strengths before I am ready to cross over? Your readiness today describes a starting point, not the limit of who you can become by grace.

Emailing opens your mail app with your full profile pre-filled. Add your mentor's address in the "To" field, then review and send.

The EXPLORE Cross-Cultural Readiness Assessment is an original discipleship tool created for the EXPLORE training program. Its dimensions are informed by widely used cross-cultural readiness frameworks such as the Cross-Cultural Adaptability Inventory (CCAI) and tools like Go Culture, but it is not affiliated with, nor a substitute for, any of them.
